Super Bowl Sunday falls on International Gruit Day this year! Head to Dry Dock to watch the big game and celebrate gruit beer!

Since 2013, February 1 has been recognized by brewers as International Gruit Day, intended to raise awareness of and pay homage to the historical traditions of brewing with botanicals. In honor of this tradition, Dry Dock’s brewers created the Bunny Gruit using rose hips, yarrow, rosemary, fresh ground ginger root, and Spanish orange peel instead of hops. This beer was fermented in French oak red wine barrels with Belgian Saison 1 (565) & Brettanomyces (Brux) yeasts.

Learn more about #GruitDay and the 150+ participating breweries at gruitday.com.

On Sunday, South Dock will have the Super Bowl on display on the large projector in the barrel room too. BYO lunch or snacks, and head on over for pints and free popcorn.

If you’re watching the game at home and looking for the perfect Super Bowl snacks, check out this Apricot Sweet Chili Hot Wing recipe by our friend Chelsea at the Drink and Spoon blog. Here’s a quote from the piece—

“‘I certainly am a football watching fool,’ [says Dry Dock Director of Brewing Operations Doug Hyndman]. ‘Wings and pizza are always a good fit with football. I’m also a big fan of bacon-wrapped jalapeños, and fried cheese curds would be sweet. Bison chile with habaneros…’

Doug, I’m sorry I won’t be cooking everything you want, but you will see some Doug-inspired recipes in the future. For now, I hope this recipe for Apricot Sweet Chili Sauce will suffice.”
